I don't want summer to ever end! I love the weather and the kids home! And even though I loved Trek for the Youth, I am glad I am not sewing anything pioneer anymore! :) That is why June we didnt have anything going for sewing group.

July Sewing Group will be on SKIRTS!

 Skirts for you or your daughters. I will be specifically doing Aline skirts for the teen to women sizes. And elastic waist skirts for the little girls.

Materials needed:
I have a pattern for what we are doing! Unless you want to bring your own!

Aline skirt for women: 7"-9" zipper (invisible zipper prefered)(I do have several regular zippers that someone gave to me that you are free to use.), thread, 1 1/2 to 2 yards of fabric and lining. (lining optional)

DO NOT BE SCARED OF ZIPPERS!!! You can do it! I will teach you! And if you dont do it right, I'll tell you to do it again! And then if you still dont do it right.... I'll do it for you! :) See how easy that is! :)

Skirts for little ones or for you!:  Measure how long you want your skirt on your little girl. Add 3 inches. That's how much fabric you need cut. Average is about 1/2 yard. You'll also need to measure around her waist for the elastic. It's about 20" of 1" elastic for each skirt. Thread.

Diaper Cover:
If you want a diaper cover for your little ones, I will lend my pattern for this day too!!! SO cute!

We will be teaching eachother the love of making flowers and hair bows! I have a list of pictures and supplies here that a few sisters have contacted me with.  Come and just learn how to make some stuff and have fun!

 I got this tutoiral off of an awesome site. http://www.makeit-loveit.com/ 

Scraps really, but you'll need a strip of fabric about 1 1/2 inch wide and about 15 inches long. How wide or narrow you make the strip will change the look of your flower. Also, a needle and thread, felt or fleece for the back.

There are a variety of different kinds of flower/ribbon clips you can make.  Here's a picture of the kinds I know how to do.  (Though I don't know how to make the curly-Q ones, sorry)

Materials:

any flowers you want to make into a bow

items to decorate the middle (jewels, buttons, etc.)

needle and thread (can be white thread, you wont see it)

hot glue gun

clips to put them on (I got my clips at the beauty store around the corner from Haistings)

any ribbon you would like to use

I will bring all of my stuff if anyone wants to use it to make just one.

For this project you will need:

-An old T-shirt (preferably one without writing on it.  The back of the shirt is fine to use as well)

-felt in the same/complimentary color as the T-shirt

-Hot Glue gun/ glue

-Scissors

-Alligator clip

Scrap of fabric, enough to cut out 6 circles, approx. 2" diameter
     -I used a small glass to trace around for my circles

complimentary brad or fabric covered button
    -I used a brad on the purple flower, and a fabric covered button on the brown flower

    -ribbon, if you choose to cover your hair clip

      I cant decide what to make, but I have heard some people really interested in making something in what they already have. For example skirts from their husband's older dress shirts, or a dress for their little girls from an old tshirt of yours. Stuff like that. (did you notice Katie Miller's dress she was wearing on Sunday? She made it from an older cute Tshirt and some fabric! great job and CUTE!!!) If you dont want that, I'll help you do another project! So, call me with your ideas and I'll be happy to direct you in the right direction for the project and supplies you need. This is also a great time to bring your mending!
     Other than that, I'll teach how to make a perfect corner, and the best seam finishes.

For those that need or want a project... I have tons of people ask how to do basics. Hems, fixing zippers, simple machine fix-it-s, ironing how to's, buttons, elastic and all sorts of stuff that. I will teach you a few things like this, so you can feel a bit more confident at home when sewing.

November is a new idea for projects. There are so many people that want so many different projects, that I decided I will just focus on more than one project! I think that each project can be done that same day!


This month, I am choosing 4 projects. These are all really great gift ideas for the people on your Christmas gift list. And its all stuff some of you wanted me to do, or that I am working on.


Bibs, dish towel aprons, kids skirts and mary jane slippers. Ok, the slippers are not going to be done in one sitting, esp with a begginner seamstress. BUT, I know you can get it done with a follow up class! :)

FYI... when you go to the fabric store and see your favorites, all the fabric come in different widths. Usually in 45", 54" and 72" wide. But, ask the cutting table to figure that out for you if you want to know. When I say to get for example.... 10" or 1/2 yard of fabric, I mean to have the cutting table cut that much for you in length. You will then have, for an example, 10" of 45" wide fabric.

You can always call me with any questions you have on any product or project!!


Bibs
These bibs wash well and nothing gets to the kid's clothes! They are awesome!
You need :
10" of 2 cordinating fabrics (one for front and one for back). Roll or package of zig zag or trim, you'll need 10" for each bib. 10" vinyl (this stuff is really wide!). Velcro strip. Thread.
With these materials, you could make about 4 bibs if you wanted to.

Dishtowel Aprons
I am always getting myself a mess while doing the dishes. Who doesnt need more simple easy aprons around the house?

You will need:

One dish towel OR 1/2 yard of fabric. Roll of about 3/4" wide ribbon. 3/4" wide Fusible web tape called "Heat N bond" or "stich witchery". (or you can buy it from me for 30cents a foot). thread.

If you choose to use fabric instead of a towel, you can make 2 of these aprons. One for you and one for your Mother n law. :)
Kid skirt
